Children thrive when schools are collaborative places for staff, students, families and communities. New research shows that union-management collaboration is the key, significantly improving staff retention and educational outcomes for students and enhancing school climate and culture, particularly for high-poverty schools. By focusing on organizational culture, collaborative structures and systems change, district teams can build strong partnerships that lead to improved goal alignment and organizational coherence. In this session, we’ll explore the practical frameworks that the California Labor Management Initiative (CA LMI) uses when convening district union-management teams to build capacity and increase collaboration and collective trust. ACSA leaders will relate their experiences with the CA LMI and strategies to improve labor relations and student outcomes.
